America in the 1940's

Short Summary of the Decade

America joins WW2 on the side of the Allies by the end of 1941, from the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th. Americans were forced to ration their resources more than the "Great War", since it was a two front war in Asia and Europe/Africa.

The conclusion of WW2 brought two Super Powers, the U.S.S.R. and the U.S.A., which will sprout the "Cold War".
PreWar-End of WW2
Franklin D. Roosevelt's presidency had many changes occurred for the American lifestyle for the coming years. Some of these changes being seen in the Workforce, Civil Liberties, and in the Families of Americans.
Harry S. Truman will be Roosevelt's successor after his death, where he will see that these changes are carried out for the rest of his time as President into the 50's.

The changes within the workforce began to shift to more diverse backgrounds because of the need of supplies for the war effort and manpower on the field.
Because of the lack of men available to run the manufacturing of goods, women were looked upon once more to be the hands for the factories and meet the demands for the war and civilian consumption.
Just as how women were given more rights because of their labor during WW1, they will ensure that these rights will be cemented further into the coming years.

One of the changes under both Presidents was in the Civil Liberties and Desegregation for African-Americans.
These changes began to grow in popularity and support because of Blacks being in the armed forces, which brought about the "Double V Campaign".
This movement was to ensure the liberties for those that the soldiers were fighting for abroad and on the home front. While the Black males went abroad to fight for others, those at home would fight for liberties and a better life.

With the majority of men fighting abroad and women working in factories would lead to fractured families and damaged relationships by the end of the war.
The youth were some of those who were hit the hardest because of the lacking support from parental figures to guide or encourage them. Much of the youth quit pursing any education to instead assist in getting money for their families because of the rations.
Since the war has been draining most of America's resources, there were cuts that were made that harmed families at the moment. Some of these were in education and medical support for Americans.
Post-War
Harry S. Truman led America out of WW2 and into the Cold War. His foreign policy known as the "Truman Doctrine" which aimed to restrict the spread of Communism by assisting those fighting communist forces.
The end of WW2 has also allowed many advancements in science, some examples are in medicines used for the war effort and more efficient surgeries.

During Truman's Presidency, the Cold War would begin with Winston Churchill denouncing the Soviets. Truman would be the first of the many presidents to focus on the containment of communism and its end.

Since many veterans were coming back from a war which had affected them physically and psychologically, so there had to be advancements that needed to be made to allow the returning soldiers to live a somewhat normal life.
The world will be benefiting from the advancements in science being forced through the war, which would ensure a better future for the future.
